JoAnn Ajayi-Scott is founder and CEO of Essence of a Lady, Inc. E/Linc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation dedicated to supporting females of all ages through educational opportunities, mentorship and special programs. She has been supporting females for over 25 years. Through the collaboration of schools, community-based organizations, local businesses and other nonprofit organizations, Essence of a Lady created the E’Ladies Network (The Network) in 1989. The Network supports all women, including aspiring entrepreneurs, through information, resources and social connections. Through a network of resources and mentoring support, The Network markets and promotes female-owned small businesses in a variety of settings. Young Essence Ladies…Learning (YELL!) is a combination mentoring program for girls ages 6 to 19 established in 2003. Presently, E/Linc has programs for The Network and YELL! in Houston, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida. It has partnerships with school districts and community based programs, such as Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) and the Jacksonville Children’s Commission. Ajayi-Scott received her B.A. in economics from University of Florida, her master’s in education from Lesley University and is currently completing her dissertation for her doctorate in education at Walden University.
