Karyn Scott
KARYN SCOTT is the founder of Kids in a New Groove (KING), a non-profit that provides free weekly music mentorship exclusively for youth in foster care. After working as an Assistant District Attorney in juvenile court and noticing many youth in foster care without resources, the idea for KING was hatched. The innovative program empowers youth in foster care through weekly music lessons taught by music teachers trained to be effective mentors. Over 450 Texas youth in care have benefitted from the weekly program, helping them to earn brand new instruments and meet goals for success. Before venturing into the non-profit arena, Scott earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas in Austin, and her law degree from Pepperdine School of Law in California. She represented KING last year at Stanford’s innovative Executive Program for Social Entrepreneurs, and is working toward scaling KING nationwide through social entrepreneurship. @kidsgroove
