Mary Beth Phillips started to believe in miracles when her baby daughter, shaken and blinded by a neighbor’s nanny survived, then thrived, against unbeatable odds. The tragedy propelled Phillips into a 20-year career as a child and family advocate. Her determination resulted in the groundbreaking Trustline Registry in California, credited with preventing thousands of criminals and abusive caregivers from taking care of children. Phillips has been recognized and honored for her work by the First Lady with a luncheon at The White House and has appeared on “Oprah.” Phillips continued to work – as a volunteer as a board member for Bananas, a child care resource and referral agency as well as board member for the National Association of Parents of the Visually Impaired. She became the executive director for CAFEC, a statewide association of non-profits that support families with children who have special needs. Two years later, forced to reinvent herself again due to a loss of funding, Phillips became the first California Liaison for Military Child Care under a Department of Defense initiative to support military families. Along with co-authors, Katie Mahon and Joan Luise Hill, Phillips wrote “The Miracle Chase: Three Women, Three Miracles and a Ten Year Journey of Discovery and Friendship.” Through all of this, Phillips went on to complete her Ph.D. in clinical psychology.www.themiraclechase.com
